We are pleased to announce the 9th Athens Kubernetes Meetup with two great talks:

“Kiali: Observability in Action for your Service Mesh”, by Lucas Ponce Senior Software Engineer at Red Hat.

Description:
Microservice Architectures break up the monolith into many smaller pieces and introduce new communication patterns between services like fault tolerance and dynamic routing. A Service Mesh like Istio provides these traffic control capabilities on a platform level and frees the application writers from those tasks, allowing them to focus on business logic. One of the major challenges with the management of a microservices architecture is trying to understand how services are composed, how they are connected and how all components operate from a global perspective to a particular detail. Kiali works with Istio to visualise the service mesh topology and describe how they are connected. In this session we will explore several microservices scenarios discussing observability practices and showing how Kiali integrates graph, health, metrics, traces, and the configuration of your Service Mesh.

Bio:
Lucas is a Senior Software Engineer at Red Hat working for the Kiali project. Prior to joining the Kiali project, he has worked in projects like Hawkular, ManageIQ and GateIn; collaborating occasionally on other community projects like Wildfly and Undertow. Before he moved into engineering, he worked as a Solution Architect helping customers to build scalable solutions. He started his career building Geographic Information Systems in the nineties.

“Turn loose the DevOps – Our story for moving into the k8s world”, by Nestoras Stefanou, Principal Devops Engineer at Transifex.

Description:
The talk is the story of why and how Transifex migrated from classic VM’s to Kubernetes and how to turn loose the DevOps. By ‘turning loose the Devops’, we mean empowering our engineers with devops responsibilities, so any infra changes needed for a new feature are only one PR away.
