As part of the Public Innovation Month organised by the French Interministerial Directorate of Public Transformation, a Blue Hats clinic will be held on the topic of opening source codes.

What is the clinic for?

Every year, the French Interministerial Directorate of Public Transformation organises a Public Innovation Month with a series of participatory workshops, feedback sessions, calls for ideas and webinars. This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the events will be held online.

As part of Public Innovation Month, the French Blue Hats, a group of developers, designers, data scientists, public officials and free software providers encouraging the use of open source software in the French public administration, are holding an online clinic on opening source codes.

National legislation requires public administrations to publish any source code that they have developed online, however, many administrations face difficulties with this process. The aim of this clinic is to help public administrations learn:

  • How to publish their source code
  • What platform to publish it on
  • The key steps to follow
  • Best practices and lessons learned
  • The objectives of opening source code
  • The benefits of this process.

Public officials will have the opportunity to present their IT project and ask questions concerning the publication of the source code of the project.

It is hoped that these exchanges will help public administrations to make concrete progress on openness, project by project, and to encourage broader discussions on how the French government can further support public administrations in this domain.

The event is scheduled for 23 November between 1:30pm and 5:30pm CET and will take place online. Please note that the event will be held in French.
