The DINAcon event is an annual event organized by the Research Centre Digital Sustainability of the University of Bern. This year’s edition is exceptionally held online due to current travel restrictions. The online event will offer a series of online presentations and lightening talks, as well as the DINAcon Awards and a virtual Hacknight.
What is the DINAcon?
DINAcon 2020 is the fourth edition of this annual event on digital sustainability. The event gathers representatives from pioneering projects and approaches from the open source and open data communities, public administrations and businesses, to be presented, discussed and awarded. Experts and opinion leaders from politics, business, the public sector, NPOs and open source communities are called upon to present their digitally sustainable innovations to the public during the event.
Event programme
The event programme is available online. Due to the current coronavirus outbreak, the event organisers have decided to organise an online event, composed of a series of online presentations and lightning talks. Presentations, which will focus on open source communities, solutions for the public sector and business and innovation, include:
- Wikipedia: Global knowledge also in the global south?
- Participatory budget at the district level – project report “Quartieridee Wipkingen”;
- Our answer to COVID19: An example of collaboration and community in the age of open data;
- Public-OSM Partnership – OpenStreetMap data for authorities;
- New public procurement law focuses on sustainability;
- Business models with open source – An open (expert) group;
- Towards a sustainable solution to open source;
- Introducing TDF and the LibreOffice community;
- “Smart Climate – Plug & Sense” – A public-private partnership generates open climate data;
- Prototyping digital participation in Switzerland – with you;
- Pandemia Parliament;
- How to enhance Linked Data in third party applications;
- Fair ICT hardware procurement – make it easily accessible;
- Sustainability in software development – an unusual approach; and
- How to foster healthcare research thanks to semantic graph technology for data integration.
This year’s edition of DINAcon will host Bianca Hoersch from the European Space Agency and Mathias Wellig from ubique as speakers.
DINAcon awards
The DINAcon Awards recognize open projects from communities, companies, administrations, organizations and individuals, in the following sections:
- Best Open Source Project;
- Best Newcomer;
- Best Practice;
- Best Open Data Project; and
- Best Open Education Project.
