The Open Data Forum is an annual event devoted to the development and application of open data in Ukraine. Now in its fourth year and taking place digitally for the first time, the Forum unites Ukrainian central and local government representatives, civil society activists, Ukrainian and international data experts, and the start-up community. The Forum offers a unique opportunity to inform and shape Ukraine’s open data agenda. The theme of this year’s event is the impact of open data on resolving civil society challenges and enhancing governance.

Over the last five years, Ukraine has made significant progress in harnessing the power of open data to increase transparency and accountability in governance and enhance citizen services. Open data legislation has improved, and as a result, the number of datasets required to be published by state authorities has tripled to more than 900. Programs to support the development of startups based on open data have also been implemented, and the Ukrainian (Kyiv School of Economics) jointly with the British (Open Data Institute) experts within USAID/ UK aid Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration and Services project /TAPAS have conducted extensive research on the economic potential of open data for Ukraine. In the span of just a few years, dozens of data-driven solutions based on central and local government-sourced open data have been created and implemented by public and private sector representatives across the country. Now is the time to talk about open data impact in Ukraine.
