Join us on 5 August for our upcoming webinar on building cross-administration collaboration on open source software (OSS) projects.

Collaboration is a core principle of open source software (OSS). Open source projects are more sustainable and successful when multiple parties are contributing to them. Collaboration increases innovation, as new solutions can be developed as part of a shared project to address the challenges faced by multiple contributors. By building upon each other’s work, public administrations can reduce development costs, improve interoperability through increased compatibility and continue to maintain common solutions without depending on vendors.

For this collaboration to be successful, public administrations need to implement good practices, i.e. knowledge-sharing procedures, the pooling of resources or the creation of a shared space for community engagement. Such practices can help to promote public administrations’ active participation in developing and sharing code among one another.

Nevertheless, public administrations often encounter challenges on their journey to sustainable collaboration, particularly with regard to risk-aversion, coordination and funding. How can they overcome these challenges? To answer this question, OSOR has invited Jacco Brouwer and Rasmus Fey to discuss their experiences in fostering collaboration on OSS projects between public administrations in the Netherlands and Denmark respectively.
