Artificial intelligence (AI) has been shaping our private and working life to an increasing extent to a number of years. In particular, the provision of generative AI, such as in the form of ChatGPT, achieved a breakthrough and further increased the importance and visibility of AI in society. Companies have also recognised that the use of AI will change existing value chains and that new possibilities for AI-based digital products and services will be created. At the same time, the rapid development of AI presents numerous challenges for both companies and society. The pursuit of a human-centered AI paradigm offers the potential to realize a fruitful symbiosis between humans and AI.

After the successful implementation of the UIG meeting in 2023, which was basically dedicated to the sustainable design of digitalization, we recognize the need to focus on the sustainable design of the relationship between people and AI in 2024. As part of the UIG meeting 2024, we are therefore focusing on the question of how an effective and responsible interaction between people and AI can be achieved and thus a consistent implementation of user focus in companies can be successfully implemented.
