Join us March 12th at 11 AM Eastern for a presentation and Q&A with Sam Boysel, postdoctoral scholar at the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard.
Sam Boysel is a postdoctoral scholar at the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard. His research interests lie at the intersection of digital technology, labor economics, and public good production. His work explores how both firms and individuals create, use, and benefit from digital goods such as open source software and artificial intelligence and seeks to understand how these technologies can shape economic behavior more broadly. He has engaged in research collaborations with private industry, the public sector, and non-profits. Sam has earned degrees from the University of Southern California (Ph.D.), Tufts University (M.S.), and UCLA (B.A.), all in economics.
Talk Description: Understanding the extent to which organizations commit resources to open source software development is not well understood. In this session, we will discuss insights from the inaugural 2024 Open Source Funding report that found organizations invest over $7.7B annually in open source. We’ll explore potential misalignments and opportunities to improve funding at a top-level, and provide defined strategies, frameworks, and tools to help your organization measure the value created and the impact received from those investments.
