What we’re about

Learn, Collaborate & Dockerize! Meet other developers and ops engineers in your community that are using and learning about Docker. Docker is an open platform that helps you build, ship and run applications anytime and anywhere. Developers use Docker to modify code and to streamline application development, while operations gain support to quickly and flexibly respond to their changing needs. Docker ensures agility, portability and control for all your distributed apps.

We’re starting this season with a topic that always comes when talking about containers and cloud-native infrastructure: Monitoring.

We’re going to host NetData’s CTO Dimosthenis Kaponis. Dimosthenis oversees the development of the company’s products, its technical architecture as well as the structure of the engineering organization. His teams are responsible for both the popular open-source Netdata agent as well as the company’s next-generation distributed monitoring solution.

Prior to Netdata, Dimosthenis worked at Beat, a Daimler/BMW subsidiary in the ride-hailing industry where he held several engineering leadership roles, including that of Chief Technology Officer. Before Beat, Dimosthenis founded his company, Cosmical Technology where he created AthensBook and ThessBook, two of the most popular smartphone apps in the late 2000s.

Dimosthenis holds an M.Eng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London where he also pursued a Ph.D. before dropping out to work in the industry.

Talk abstract

Netdata started as a side-project by Costas Tsaoussis, developed into a very popular open-source project (>41K stars on GitHub, 3rd in the CNCF Landscape.) and incorporated in mid-2018. Less than a year later we raised our Series A, the largest of any Greek startup to date ($17M). Today we are well on our way to building the next generation Observability Platform, ‘at the edge’, combining very high sampling resolution, low-cost and extreme performance. In this talk, Dimosthenis Kaponis will talk about our history, the market, our goals and strategy.

As always, we’ll move to the Cube’s terrace after the talk and enjoy the view with soft drinks, beer, wine and great conversations.
