On the 20th and 21st of November 2023, the COHUBICOL project – Counting as a Human Being in the Era of Computational Law – organizes the CRCL23 conference. The event aims to bring together key scholars in the domain of computational ‘law’. The conference will open the discussions on the current scenario at the intersection of technology and law, specifically on the distinction between data-driven ‘law’ and code-driven ‘law’.

The conference seeks to inquire into:

• the theoretical assumptions and affordances of NLP and computer code in both data- and code-driven ‘legal techs’
• the complex socio-technical dynamics that will play out when integrating advanced legal search into legal practice
• the implications of all this for legal doctrine, legal practice, and legal scholarship
• the kind of legal protection afforded by text-driven law.
