COVID Tracker Ireland is an open source digital contact tracing app that was released by the Irish Government and the Health Service Executive (HSE) to prevent the spread of COVID-19 nationwide. Using ENS and Bluetooth technology, the app informs users when they have been a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The app hit the headlines in July after it gained one million registered users in the 36 hours after its launch. OpenUK has invited Danese Cooper of Nearform, the company that helped develop the software for COVID Tracker Ireland, to speak about the development of the app on 26 February.

Who are OpenUK?

OpenUK is a not-for-profit company that aims to  harness the power of collaboration around open source software, open source hardware and open data in the UK. This session will feature a presentation from Danese Cooper, who has spent her career promoting open source and InnerSource (the practice of open source methods inside corporations).
