On Tuesday 1st December 2020, CH Open and why! Computing are hosting an online presentation about CERN’s newly updated Open Hardware Licence. This new version maintains the original goal of providing a sound legal basis for the sharing of hardware designs, while bringing in numerous improvements.
Presenting CERN’s Open Hardware Licence
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. The CERN Open Hardware Licence is to hardware what free and open-source licences are to software. It defines the conditions under which a licensee will be able to use or modify the licensed material. It shares the same principles as free software or open-source software: anyone should be able to see the source code. study it, modify it and share it.
Following the update of the Open Hardware Licence, the Swiss Association for the promotion of open source software and open standards (CH Open) is hosting an online presentation with why! Computing. During the presentation, a co-author of the open hardware llicence will outline:
- Licencing
- Open source hardware and the challenges of licencing
- Solutions provided by V2.0 of the CERN Open Source Hardware Licence.
Online registration is compulsory and free of charge.
