Το νέο Berkeley DB από την Sleepycat

EMERYVILLE Calif., November 7, 2005 – Sleepycat Software, makers of the world’s most widely deployed open source developer databases, today announced the general availability of version 2.2 of Berkeley DB XML, the company’s award-winning native XML database. To meet customer demand for high-speed XML transactions, performance of the new version of Berkeley DB XML has been significantly increased, in some cases by more than 500 percent.

“Berkeley DB XML is a robust storage engine for XML documents,” said

George Schlossnagle, Vice President and Principal Consultant for OmniTI Computer Consulting. “For developers that need high performance, reliability and scalability, the latest release of Berkeley DB XML will enable their applications to run even faster. For PHP developers, Berkeley DB XML provides a great XML document store searchable with XQuery, something otherwise unavailable within PHP5.”

Berkeley DB XML fills a need for high performance XML data management

that can be deployed in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), so that components distributed around a network can store, manage and share data easily. Unlike heavyweight client-server and relational products, Berkeley DB XML is easily deployed alongside high-performance components running at various locations on a network. In September, Sleepycat announced that Starwood Hotels had moved to Berkeley DB XML to manage the increased volume of XML data resulting from its transition to SOA.

“In the last six months, we’ve seen a sharp increase in both the demand for Berkeley DB XML and the volume of XML data under management,” said Mike Olson, CEO of Sleepycat Software. “Any developer that needs to store XML data can benefit from Berkeley DB XML. If the developer is suffering from performance problems with their XML-based application, they absolutely should download and use our new version of Berkeley DB XML today.”

Berkeley DB XML is built on top of Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB database, a proven product with more than 200 million deployments. New features in this release of Berkeley DB XML include:

. Node level indexes, which dramatically improve query performance, especially for large XML documents;

. Optimization of query plan generation and indexing;

. Streamlined path expression evaluation;

. Dramatically improved resource utilization for node storage

containers;

. New index lookup functions;

. Support for the April 2005 drafts of XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0.

Availability

Berkeley DB XML 2.2 is available immediately under a dual-license. A

no-cost open source license permits redistribution if the application

using Berkeley DB XML is open source. A commercial license is available for redistribution of proprietary applications. Berkeley DB XML is available for download at:
